AOG World Relief was founded upon the basic premise of bringing about transformation in the lives of not only individuals but in the entire communities. They believe in connecting resource to need. They believe in addressing the key issues plaguing humanity - poverty and injustice.

AOG have expanded operations to include community development projects ranging from providing clean water and sanitation, a livestock pay-it-forward system, health education, medical equipment and assistance as well as sponsoring many life saving heart operations for children.

AOG have also launched a range of personal development programs called shineGIRL and STRENGTH. These programs aim to change mindsets, help young men and women discover their value, purpose and significance, whilst also equipping and empowering them to succeed in life.

Paul and Deborah Hilton, the chief project coordinators of AOG World Relief, have been working in Vietnam since they moved there in 1998. Their work began by providing a handful of young school students with educational scholarships and today are assisting over 1,000 children, their families, as well as the respective communities within which they live. This essentially equates to around 12,000 lives that are currently being impacted through the child sponsorship program alone.

Funds raised by our Volunteer Holiday program and the personal donations of others have benefited many of the crucial projects that AOG manage such as the Pay It Forward Livestock programs, water sanitation projects, wheelchair donations and the ShineGirl program.

Water Sanitation update

In many parts of Vietnam there is no such thing as clean running water at least not in the sense that you understand. Most villagers in Vietnam have never known clean water as a luxury let alone as a basic amenity.

Thanks to the kind donations of others, earlier in the year we installed a brand new water filtration system in the village of Dai Loc. In May 2011 we returned to Vietnam and our volunteers saw first hand the amazing transformation that has taken place in Dai Loc. The flow-on effects of clean water are nothing short of amazing. Without it, villagers have constant illness (such as vomiting, diarrhoea and skin conditions) from drinking contaminated water. Clean water changes the health of all local children and helps ensure they attend school.

Our assistance really does make a difference to lives in Vietnam. Take a look at our image gallery below to see heart-warming images of local children enjoying clean water.

Wheelchair program

There are many children in Vietnam who have never owned a wheelchair. Instead their parents have carried them for most of their lives. This means that children and their parents often have to stay at home.

A new wheelchair provides a freedom and independence that both the children and their parents have never experienced before.

During our May 2011 trip, our group met disabled children and their families and handed over 16 brand new wheelchairs to the children. It was incredible to see children arriving being carried by their parents and leaving in their new wheelchairs.

Pay it Forward Program

As part of this program, a piglet is provided to a poor farmer and after raising the pig, the farmer give two piglets to his neighbour who will do the same in turn, thus paying it forward.

Our group travelled to Dai Loc and donated 45 pigs to farmers in need. 10 of these farmers had recently lost everything in a typhoon. On the way back from Dai Loc we visited a farmer who had many healthy piglets as a result of this inspiring program.
